How I Organize My English Studies Around a Busy Routine (B2–upper level)

Today’s post is about English studies. I started managing my English study hours in a more efficient way that fits my work routine in the lab. In this post, I want to share my study schedule with you. I designed this schedule in a different way, making it less boring and more practical. I believe it will help me not only with my daily English practice, but also in my academic life.

Let’s go through each step and understand how I developed this new way of studying. It is possible to study English efficiently even with a busy routine. I hope this post helps open your mind and gives you ideas on how to manage your studies alongside a busy schedule. Feel free to use my template however you like.

My English schedule has five columns (date, day, hour, skill, and activity). I started by thinking about the skills and deciding which ones would be my main focus. After that, I chose activities for each skill that would genuinely help me improve. It is important that these activities are realistic and can be done during the week (some of them are described in the template below).

In addition, I focused on how many hours I would spend on each activity and skill. It is very important to be realistic here and not exceed one hour per activity per day, especially because we do not have much free time to dedicate only to English.

When planning your schedule, make sure the time you choose is realistic for your day. Try to distribute short periods of time across different skills and spend more time on your main focus skill. My advice is not to exceed two hours of English study per day during the week. This helps keep your mind fresh, avoids overload, and reminds you that quantity is not a synonym for quality.

Try to complete your planned study time each day. If you cannot, that’s okay, it happens! However, if it happens often, it may be a warning sign that your strategy is not realistic for your routine, and you may need to rethink your schedule.
