Sixth week

 

Hi everyone,

One more week completed. This week I tried to focus more on my listening because I feel that I am not improving anymore. I realized that I need a new learning strategy.

Why do I feel like this?

-In complex dialogues, I understand the general idea but miss many details.

-In longer dialogues (especially with many expressions), it is difficult to follow the conversation.

Why my listening progress stopped?

- I don’t analyze my mistakes after listening.

My new 4 strategies

1 Passive Listening
Continue listening without pausing or analyzing.

2 Active Listening

-Listen once to understand the general idea.

-Listen again and write the keywords you hear.

-Check the transcript.

Mark:
- new vocabulary
- expressions
-parts you didn’t hear correctly

-Listen again while reading the transcript.

-Listen again without the transcript.

After listening, ask yourself:

-Did I miss any vocabulary?

-Did I misunderstand the pronunciation?

-Was the speaker too fast?

3 Shadowing
Repeat what the speaker says.

4 Mixed Practice
Combine everything:

-10 min passive listening
-5 min active listening
-5 min shadowing
